AN UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS - CELINE SPRING / SUMMER 2007 RUNWAY SHOWS

“The opposition of lightness and weight is the most mysterious and ambiguous of all oppositions.”
Everything lies in the interplay of strength and weakness, the nexus of unbearable lightness. Lightness of appearance. Of Being. Oneself. Herself.Another.
A vulnerable appearance belies a secret warrior. Or the other way around. But the result is definitive luxury and chic. In a word, Parisian. The very definition of the modern woman.
Ivana Omazic, CELINE’s artistic director, dresses women as a woman. The collection expresses a sensuality without ostentation, one that is at once pragmatic and ethereal, and always extremely sophisticated.
Despite rigorous attention to cut, detail and strong, distinctly personal accessories, there is in Ivana Omazic’s designs a certain fragile, angelic quality. She calls it “The Wings of Desire”. It is a message addressed to women who embody strength as much as poetry.

The silhouette
Above all, the CELINE woman radiates a peaceful allure. The tension lies in the opposition of intriguing transparency and protective opacity of fragility and construction.
Volume and lightness constantly alternate.
Sun kissed legs unfold beneath dresses and shorts.
A jersey cardigan or a little biker jacket in taffeta are the pretext for flaunting gloriously long legs.
Slim pants with cuffed hems flatter the silhouette without weighing it down.
Transparent organdy dresses and t-shirts, topstitching and contours evoke a filigreed, almost immaterial, subliminal silhouette. The unbearable
lightness of being.

Fabrics

Second-skin jersey. Water repellent silk gabardine. Volatile parachute silk. Iridescent faille. Cloud-like taffeta. Chalk or metallic python. Translucent embroidery. Curled black-lacquered feathers.

Palette
Broken luminosity. Black shot through with light. Faux opaqueness. Refractions of skin.
Pale shades of stone, bone, chalk, opal, nude, mist, champagne, ash, optic white.

Accessories
The spring-summer 2007 Byblos moccasin remains two-tone but is now on a platform heel. A hollow heel, vertiginous wedge sandals in matte croc with straps in chocolate leather.
Strappy black sandals and red patent leather sandals elongate the silhouette.

The saddle-stitched strap of the new Bittersweet bag cinches its sensual curves. A small version steps out for evening in embroidered black satin and jet.
The Double Tote is two bags in one. Its inner pochette unclips to slip into a matte crocodile cover. It adapts its role to suit any circumstance. In grained calfskin or smooth powder, white and red leather.
The new Anatomic bag conceived as a round-the-clock companion. Zippered front and side pockets ensure perfect practicality. It makes its first appearance on the catwalk in glazed black python and white calfskin.
